Human life has infinite value. Such value does not derive from the
creature, but from the Creator. Those who are mentally ill, handicapped
or terminally ill have the same immeasurable value as schoolchildren.
After Noah witnessed God’s judgment in the flood, he was reminded that
human creatures derive all their value from the Creator. "Whoever sheds
man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed: for in the image of God he
made man." (Genesis 9:6)
It is almost ironic that God teaches the high value of human life in
the context of judgment unto death - the ultimate penalty for rebellion
against man’s Maker.
The post-modern pundits marvel that kids place no value on the human
soul - the same ones that tried to make Dr. Kevorkian a folk hero, and
tried to make abortionists into champions of women’s rights (serial killers
both).
Americans expend more effort (it seems) to save wildlife, than to save
children from a wild life. The most endangered species is a well-disciplined,
God-fearing child.
Children are led to believe that the only difference between them, and
animals, is time. The modern view of human life reverts to the primitive
– devolution, the natural consequence of a belief in evolution.
The next generation is falsely taught that human life is valued on a
sliding scale - young people (high value) - elderly or terminally ill (little
value) – children in the womb (no value).
Thus, the shock value of killing schoolchildren is escalated. This is
evidenced by the cultural outrage over the slaughter at Columbine High
School.
Contrast this with the "ho-hum" response (the absence of outrage) when
a terminally depressed, elderly man was executed on videotape aired on
"60 Minutes."
The Lord God never devalued a human soul due to physical infirmities
or due to a defenseless condition. On the contrary, the great physician
showed compassion to such as these.
The image of God written on the human soul was magnified, elevated for
the praise of the Creator.
Unless you look to the Creator, each human creature will be given differing
measures of value. Treasure every human soul, and you will begin to see
as God sees.
