Internet Purpose?
Technology and the Kingdom of God
By William L. Zvara

The internet is rapidly becoming the primary medium of information, communication and commerce. What Divine purpose could there be for this phenomenon, and why now? To analyze such a question in the Word of God we must consider the history of God's dealings with man.

Scripture reveals that God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let him have dominion...over all the earth. (Genesis 1:26) God created man to have godly dominion over all the earth. Then all mankind fell into sin and death through their federal head, Adam.

Yet even in his fallen state, man has the image of his Creator. Man is a creative living soul, and God has put eternity in his heart. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) Man's creative energies, thus, are directed by the Lord God primarily toward eternal purposes.

For what purpose does the living God grant unto man skill, invention and technology? It is not primarily for comfort and ease, though God's common grace extends to all mankind. He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. (Luke 6:35) And He sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. (Matthew 5:45)

The reason for such kindness is that the Creator God may be revealed and witnessed, to the saving of a man's soul. He left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. (Acts 14:17)

God grants man skill to worship Him and to bear witness to His name throughout all the earth. Moses was told by God, Hew thee two tables of stone...and make thee an ark of wood. (Deuteronomy 10:1) The Lord God wrote on these stone tablets the ten commandments which were kept in the ark.

Papyrus was invented for the eternal purpose of advancing God's Word.

Making Aaron's holy garments were men who were called the wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom. (Exodus 28:3) Construction of the Tabernacle by skilled men also reveals this truth: Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work. (Exodus 35:35)

Likewise, construction of the Temple. David instructs Solomon, there are workmen with thee in abundance...and all manner of cunning men for every manner of work. (I Chronicles 22:15) The King of Judah (entrusted with the oracles of God) was strong in war, for he built devises invented by cunning men. (II Chronicles 26:15)

Even if man's intentions are evil, the Lord is advancing His kingdom.

Who invented the cross? Yet, without it there would be no salvation by repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified. Acts 2:23.

Consider the eternal purposes of the Lord God in giving to man the printing press, the radio, television, space satellites and computers. Though many would use these for evil, yet God purposed it for the saving of men's souls.

In the fullness of time God gave to man the internet, that His Truth may (using all available means) be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Matthew 24:14.
