Truth Never Changes

Reflecting upon the Millennium is an opportunity to marvel at how much has changed in the last 100 years, in the last 1,000 years – and in the 2,000 years since Jesus of Nazareth turned the world upside down!

What is even more remarkable is that some things have not changed one iota. We can put a man on the moon, we can link computers together which can communicate instantaneously around the globe – yet we cannot change man’s heart.

The man-centered times in which we live have made man into simply a higher form of animal, which provides the excuse for him to behave accordingly – like an animal.

If we compare the technological advances of mankind during the 20th century, over against the moral decline during that same period, the contrast is like a space rocket overcoming gravity while a falling feather succumbs to its downward pull.

No matter how much technology progresses, man’s heart descends slowly deeper into depravity. The ever-escalating advances of science (not to mention the blinding advances of the stock market) cause many to say – like the Pharaoh said to Moses – "Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice…I know not the LORD."

Sometimes God blesses people with poverty, and sometimes He curses them with prosperity. Those in need cry out to their Maker; those with no lack utter only boasting.

Technology advances rapidly; moral decline is more gradual. A frog dropped into a pot of boiling water leaps out to safety, yet a frog in water brought to a slow boil will die in its complacency.

America is intoxicated with prosperity while moral declension continues unnoticed. This reminds us of the urgency of personal rebirth through spiritual Truth – the only thing that never changes. "Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today, and forever."

Misinformation is Power

Tyrants throughout history ruled over misinformed masses. The former Soviet Union held power for 70 years by promoting lies as the truth. Feeding false information to the enemy is a powerful tool of warfare.

Remarkably, the Information Age is not providing a quick-fix to misinformation. People will believe any lie if it is repeated with enough frequency. The mob mentality of the major media shapes public opinion as never before.

Reporting every sin committed worldwide against one people-group gives the false impression that hatred of that group is the norm. This is furthered by a total failure to report the sins which are committed by that same group against the innocent.

Likewise, if an earthquake occurs in one part of the world you will suddenly be "informed" of every earthquake worldwide for the next three months. This gives the false impression that such calamities are on the rise.

You name the event, and lies and distortions about that event can be propagated throughout the world by the media mob – threats of terrorism, risks of environmental destruction, violent weather storms, discrimination against certain people-groups.

All of these occurrences are present in the world. But we must ask, are they the norm? Are they even statistically significant? And if so, how prevalent are they?

In this environment of sharing selective facts as misinformation, worldwide hysteria and panic are easily created. Now you can see why tyrants have a desire for misinformed masses. They are easily deceived and oppressed.

America must beware! Lies win political debates. Misinformation becomes widely accepted. The First Amendment protects a free press; it does not protect a people who lack the discernment to seek out the truth.

"I Am...The Truth"

Jesus is the personification of eternal Truth. He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me."

If we say the truth is relative or the truth is negotiable then we deny Christ. Living in the Misinformation Age demands a solid grasp of those eternal truths set down in God’s Word – against them all falsehood is revealed.

The Truth is personal, its application is personal, and its defense should be our personal calling.
